STEP-BY-STEP
How to Care for Your Jewelry
Put jewelry on last
Always put your jewelry on last when getting ready — after applying perfume, lotion, and hairspray. This prevents chemical contact that can damage shells, pearls, and metals.
Avoid water and moisture
Remove all jewelry before showering, swimming, or exercising. Water and sweat can tarnish sterling silver and dull the iridescent surface of abalone shell.
Wipe clean after wearing
After each wear, gently wipe your jewelry with a soft, dry cloth to remove skin oils and residue. For pearls, use a slightly damp cloth then allow to dry completely.
Store pieces separately
Store each piece of jewelry separately in a soft pouch or compartmentalized jewelry box to prevent scratching. Keep abalone shell pieces away from other metals.
Polish sterling silver regularly
Use a silver polishing cloth to restore shine to tarnished sterling silver. For heavier tarnish, a mild silver cleaning solution can be used. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners for pieces with shells or pearls.
Take jewelry off first
Remove your jewelry first when coming home — before washing hands, cooking, or cleaning. This is the single most effective habit for preserving your pieces long-term.
BY MATERIAL
Material-Specific Care
Abalone Shell
Abalone is a natural material that can be sensitive to chemicals and moisture. Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. The iridescent surface can be dulled by oils and chemicals. Store separately from other pieces.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time. Polish with a silver polishing cloth to restore shine. Store in an anti-tarnish pouch when not wearing. Avoid contact with sulfur-containing materials.
Freshwater & Baroque Pearls
Pearls are organic gems that require special care. Wipe with a soft damp cloth after wearing to remove skin oils. Avoid all chemicals, perfumes, and hairspray.
Gemstones
Most gemstones can be gently cleaned with a soft brush and mild soap in lukewarm water. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners for stones with inclusions or fractures.
Golden Rule
"Put your jewelry on last when getting ready, and take it off first when you get home."
